Research Group Experience

Group projects are academic obstacles that most students have to overcome. Group projects are common course activities in college. I have done a group research project before as a final for a college course history class. So I had experience with this before. I have seen the same, overlapping problems with this group. I would say that the final went the same way of this project and had all the same problems. But that’s also says that it must have had the same strengths amongst group members.

However, group projects are not my strong point. This project helped me see what I was doing wrong and how it can be avoided in the future. From this project I’ve learned that communication is the most important aspect of a group project. This was in my opinion one of our group’s weakness. Our strengths were that we all did our work and helped each other out to complete individual tasks. My group have gained experience in talking in front of the class and sharing their opinions to draw connection to other thoughts. The ability to critically think about the material researched. Also, another would be to communicate amongst groups because I feel like that was our main problem in the group. Everyone did their work but it was very messy in the way it was all organized and communication was a big factor of that. But in the end we did end up understanding our roles as groups and did well in helping each other completing the project.

This project has affected me in a positive way either it be with a group projects or understanding text. This project increased the way I understand research for writings. I learned how to find sources that would help with my writing assignment. Most importantly, it helped me to understand and interpret others’ analysis of the sources. To learn other group members’ analysis of the text helps you to understand material and widen your understanding of a topic that is being researched. Overall it will help in giving the presentation if you know more information and make the information clear to the audience.

My role in this project was to be speaker. So I have to understand the information enough so that I could explain it clearly to the audience. I had to introduce the topic and present the information that we have gathered form researching. My contributions to the project were trying to assemble everyone to present to present their information to the group. I say tried because my group was all communicating with the person I couldn’t get a hold of. But in the end it worked out and we all got a hold of each’s information. I feel like I as speaker didn’t contribute much because of the information that we were going over. But of course the thing that we as a group learned to do more of in the future is to communicate.
